Our Story

We were raised in the rich folk cultures of south Louisiana and the Appalachian Mountain range where back-porch songs, stories and conversation convey the shared sense of place and identity that continue to define us today. Now based in New York and New Orleans, we are deeply rooted in the community mindset of our upbringing. Quick wit, good humor and a way with story remain a significant part of our lives.

We take a folkloric, multimedia approach to visual storytelling™

Folklore is the art of passing stories from person to person—stories that endure because they’re beautifully told and keenly felt. We bring that same spirit to every project, blending design and narrative to create multimedia content that makes your story memorable, whether it’s about you, your organization or your brand.

Come to Back Porch and sit with us awhile.

Founder | Creative Director

Christa Myers

I am a multimedia designer and filmmaker with more than 20 years experience producing creative content for such organizations as the VA, Eileen Fisher, Workman Publishing, PBS, CBS and HBO.

Born and raised a forester’s daughter in the Sierra Nevada and Appalachian Mountains, I grew up skiing and became a cycling, hiking and kayaking enthusiast. After finishing my B.A. in Integrative Arts at Penn State, I relocated to New York and worked in the film and television industry as a graphic and scenic artist.

My interest in narrative ethnography led me to pursue a graduate program in Folklore and Ethnography at the University of Pennsylvania, where I learned the principles of fieldwork and the significance of story. Following my master’s degree, I returned to New York to continue a career in visual arts. My education in folklore and ethnography, graphic design and documentary filmmaking informs my work in short-form multimedia storytelling.

Animator | Motion Designer

Jenny Temple

I have over 20 years experience in the television/film industry creating 2D and 3D animation, motion graphics, logo design and illustration. As a student at the famed New Orleans Center for the Arts high school (NOCCA), I studied visual arts and fell in love with animation.

After completing my undergraduate work at Loyola New Orleans, I continued my training in New York City at MTV studios. While at MTV and subsequently at post production houses in Manhattan, I created work for such clients as MTV, the BBC, PBS, and VH1. I later moved to the west coast to combine my enthusiasm for surfing and my quest for new creative opportunities. Landing a job at KPBS in San Diego, I produced work for clients such as The Clever Cleaver Brothers and the San Diego Theater Critics Circle.

I eventually returned to my native New Orleans where I continue my creative career and participate in the unique visual arts, masking and dance culture of this magical city.
